Agricultural Helicopter Pilots: Roles and Responsibilities

Agricultural helicopter pilots are responsible for the safe, precise and efficient execution of aerial application operations.

This is a specialized flying position requiring strong aircraft-handling skills, situational awareness, sound aeronautical decision-making and the ability to operate professionally in a demanding agricultural environment.

Responsibilities

 

  • Conduct agricultural helicopter operations safely and professionally
  • Perform precise aerial applications in accordance with the approved application plan and applicable regulations
  • Evaluate fields, obstacles, sensitive areas, weather and operating conditions before each application
  • Maintain effective communication with ground crews, growers, Pest Control Advisers and operational personnel
  • Conduct preflight and post-flight inspections
  • Accurately maintain required aircraft, application and operational records
  • Monitor aircraft performance and immediately communicate maintenance concerns
  • Protect people, property, crops and surrounding sensitive areas throughout the operation
  • Maintain a professional standard of safety and decision-making at all times

Preferred Qualifications


Applicants should possess the FAA certificates and ratings appropriate to the position and aircraft being operated.


Agricultural helicopter experience is strongly preferred. Candidates with substantial commercial helicopter experience who are interested in transitioning into agricultural aviation may also be considered depending on experience and operational needs.


California agricultural aviation licensing and pesticide-related qualifications applicable to the position are preferred or must be obtained before conducting applicable operations.


Above all, we're looking for pilots with good judgment, discipline and a safety-first attitude who understand that agricultural flying requires precision rather than unnecessary risk.
